We teamed up with suppliers to overcome material supply shortages to ensure the surging demand for BIOSAFE is met for all customers, especially healthcare professionals.
BIOSAFE® Antimicrobials are found in a wide range of EPA-approved applications among them: Certainty® SmartBoost™ Laundry Additive for healthcare uniforms, NWA Quat Keeper™ Foodservice Towels for restaurants and cafeterias, and King Microshield® for medical equipment and facilities. These are used to preserve treated articles by preventing the growth of stain and odor causing bacteria, fungi, mold and mildew.
We are excited to announce that Mitsubishi Chemical America, Inc. has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the Gelest and Bimax entities. Completion of the transaction is expected in 2020, pending customary regulatory review and approval. Meanwhile we will continue to innovate to serve the evolving needs of our customers.
The National Wiper Alliance (NWA), the industry leader in converting custom nonwoven towels for medical, food service, and aerospace applications, has selected BIOSAFE antimicrobial technology to enhance its newly introduced QUAT KEEPER™ Foodservice Towels. “Gelest and NWA joined forces and successfully developed a simple solution that provides towels with antimicrobial protection and mitigates against Quat depletion,” said Ken Gayer, Chief Executive Officer of Gelest.
Strategic Partners Inc. (SPI), the industry leader in medical uniforms, has selected BIOSAFE® antimicrobial fabric technology for use in their Certainty® SmartBoost™ laundry additive product.
Gelest, Inc. joined The Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Challenge launched by the U.S. Government and CDC in September 2018. The AMR Challenge is an effort to accelerate the fight against antimicrobial resistance through committed action across governments and industries. Gelest manufactures BIOSAFE® Antimicrobials that inhibit microorganism growth by physically puncturing the cell microbe membrane, killing the microbes on contact by electrocuting them.
BIOSAFE® HM4100 Antimicrobial, the keystone of Gelest’s BIOSAFE product line, is now certified to NSF-51, “for use as an antimicrobial to preserve finished food contact articles,” according to NSF International. These are food preparation surfaces where the antimicrobial is incorporated into the resin, a food contact layer, a coating additive or a polymeric beverage tubing..
BIOSAFE® HM4100 Antimicrobial Renders Plastics, Coatings and Filter Media Inherently Antimicrobial, and is Now Approved for Food Contact and Drinking Water Applications after FDA and EPA review.
BIOSAFE® silicon-based antimicrobials protect formulated coatings and compounded polymers for manufactured goods. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency-registered, the no-VOC antimicrobials prevent deterioration and discoloration caused by fungi, prevent algae growth and inhibit the growth of odor-causing bacteria. Colorless and odorless, the BIOSAFE® materials are positively charged polymers and can be incorporated into coatings.
